Melk Costa shows no interest in facing Patrício Pitbull in the UFC octagon at this time. Riding a six-fight winning streak in the organization, the Paraense fighter is in great form and has established himself as one of the leading names of the new generation of featherweights (up to 65,7kg) after knocking out Dan Ige at UFC Houston, held last Saturday (21). The result guaranteed the 'Dalmatian' a place in the category ranking and put him on the radar for possible confrontations against more experienced and established athletes.
In an exclusive interview with SUPER LUTAS, Melk indicated that he doesn't look favorably on the possibility of facing a fellow countryman at this stage of his career. A declared admirer of the former Bellator champion's career, the Dalmatian emphasized the respect he has for Pitbull, whom he has followed since the beginning of his development in the sport.
“Another Brazilian in the category is Patrício Pitbull . I have absolutely no desire to fight Patrício today. He's a legendary guy. I've watched him since I was a kid. Bellator champion, fought the best and everything. And so, if the UFC comes and says they want me to fight Pitbull, it's that old saying: those who can command, command; those who are wise obey. I'll fight. But if it's up to me to choose, I won't fight,” said Melk Costa.

Still, Melk acknowledged that a potential confrontation could happen if the organization decides so. In that scenario, he guaranteed that he would enter the octagon ready to give his all to win, even though he doesn't consider fighting a desired option at this point in his professional career.
“As an athlete, as a person, I don’t think it’s interesting. If it closes, it’s going to be a war. I’ll give 100% of myself and things are going to get crazy, it’ll be Dalmatian versus Pitbull. But as I said, nowadays, if I were to ask, I don’t want to,” concluded Dalmatian.
