Alexander Volkanovski was close to hanging up his gloves before his fight against Diego Lopes at UFC 325. The Australian put his featherweight title (up to 65,7kg) on the line in the rematch against the Brazilian, won the fight and, despite suffering a knockdown during the bout, assessed that he did not receive enough damage to confirm his retirement.
In a conversation with Demetrious Johnson on YouTube, Volkanovski revealed that he could have ended his career if he had suffered more damage in the fight, but highlighted that the result left him in a comfortable position to continue competing. The champion also stated that he signed a new contract with the UFC after the fight, a factor that contributed to his decision to remain active.

“If I had suffered a lot of damage in that fight, I might have given up. But now I’m in a good position. I also got a new contract, which was great,” said Alexander Volkanovski.

Although his fight against Diego Lopes was recent, Alexander Volkanovski already has his next move in mind. After defeating the Brazilian, the Australian made it clear that, in the next round, he hopes to face the winner of Lerone Murphy and Movsar Evloev , who will share the octagon at UFC London , scheduled for March 28th.
Besides the undefeated fighters, Jean Silva is another name that could emerge as an opponent for Volkanovski. The Brazilian even provoked the champion by saying he would do his training camp in partnership with Ilia Topuria , the only fighter to defeat the Australian in the featherweight division.
