Lone'er Kavanagh did not let his golden opportunity slip away at UFC Mexico , held last Saturday (28). The Briton, who was coming off a loss, accepted to face Brandon Moreno at the last minute, came close to knocking out the former champion and beat the home fighter by unanimous decision of the judges.

With the victory, Kavanagh reached 10 career wins and, even outside the rankings, should climb to sixth position in the next update. Moreno, on the other hand, suffered his ninth defeat and now has two consecutive losses in the organization.

Brandon Moreno started the fight by gauging the distance with quick jabs. Slower, Kavanagh waited for the home fighter's attacks to land his best strikes. Midway through the round, the Briton took advantage of an approach to land a counter straight punch, followed by a leg kick.

The second round began with both fighters trying to impose their rhythm in the fight for the center of the octagon. Moreno closed the distance with frantic movement, while Kavanagh landed the best blows, including a front kick to the chin. In the second half of the round, Lone'er dodged an attack from Brandon and connected with a sequence that rocked the Mexican, who narrowly avoided being knocked out.

The punishments from the previous round were already weighing on Moreno in the third round. Kavanagh, now faster, didn't let the Mexican connect his strikes and responded with precision. Midway through the round, Brandon decided to change his approach and attempted a takedown, without success.

During the break between the third and fourth rounds, Lone'er made it clear to his coaches that he was already tired. Moreno, aware that he was behind on points, returned more aggressively. With one minute left in the fight, Brandon dove for his opponent's legs to attempt a takedown. After a long time in the clinch, the fighters separated, and the Briton began to hurt him with calf kicks, which threw the Mexican off balance.

In the final round, Kavanagh was confident of victory and simply returned to manage the result. With a sense of urgency kicking in, Moreno once again went on the offensive, relying on takedown attempts and trapping his opponent against the cage.

After five rounds of action, Lone'er Kavanagh was declared the winner by unanimous decision of the judges.
