With nearly 50 professional fights and a UFC contract for over 15 years, Charles "Do Bronx" Oliveira has experienced many different situations in the world's most famous octagon. His mother, for example, hasn't been able to watch her son's fights for over a decade.

Interestingly, the trauma arose precisely during the Brazilian's first fight against Max Holloway in 2015. Ozana Oliveira admitted that the sight of her son leaving the octagon on a stretcher after suffering a neck injury in the first round was too much to bear. Since then, she has had a ritual to protect the former champion and, at the same time, preserve herself.
“I don’t watch my son’s fight. I used to, but ever since he got hurt against that same kid, I made a deal with God. I ask Him to bring my son home safe and sound, just like He did. After he shakes hands (with his opponent), I turn my back and go pray. I don’t watch his fight. And believe it or not, he’s going to fight him again. That day wasn’t his, but the 7th will be,” Ozana stated in an interview with UFC Countdown.

Very close to his parents, the Brazilian stated in a recent interview that he wished his father would fasten the BMF belt around his waist as a gesture of gratitude for his support throughout his journey in the world of martial arts.

Apparently, Charles will give his parents even more reason to be scared next weekend. In several statements, the São Paulo native has made it clear that he will not shy away from a stand-up fight with the Hawaiian. Aware of Holloway's habit of aiming for the center of the octagon and going for a reckless exchange in the final ten seconds of his fights, Charlinho has made himself available to trade punches carelessly even in the initial moments.
