The UFC's all-time leading finisher and owner of one of the most impressive journeys of all time, Charles Oliveira had to overcome many obstacles to reach the top of MMA with his lightweight title win (up to 70,3 kg) in 2021, more than a decade after his debut in the organization. However, according to Joe Rogan, the turning point for the "Blamed Lion" happened far from the octagon, in the athlete's personal life.

During an appearance on his podcast, 'The Joe Rogan Experience' in September 2022, the main commentator for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) stated that the birth of the Brazilian fighter's first daughter changed his approach to fights from a psychological standpoint.

“The thing about Oliveira is that everyone looks at him in his worst moments. Cub Swanson knocked him out. Paul Felder massacred him. Everyone beat him. Something happened when this guy had a child. And there’s a flame inside him, like the center of the sun. I don’t know what it is, man, but he’s a different person. He throws himself headfirst into the fight. He doesn’t take shortcuts, it’s all risk. And he has 100% confidence, no matter how hard you hit him, he’ll be okay,” he stated.

Charles himself has spoken about the subject. Shortly before facing Paul Felder in December 2017, the athlete said that becoming a father changed the meaning of his life inside the octagon, leading him to compete with more determination and a greater will to win.

“Everything changed. Seeing my daughter in front of me. We do everything with more enthusiasm. What I already wanted, I want even more, because I know that this way I can give her a better future. Those who follow me on social media know that I post workouts and my daughter. It's 100% her,” she said in an interview with Uol at the time.
