Dana White Praises Poatan, But Issues Concerning Warning for Historic Fight at UFC White House

Alex Poatan finally had his future defined, and it wasn't surprising at all. After vacating the light heavyweight belt (up to 93 kg), the Brazilian had his move up to heavyweight (up to 120,2 kg) confirmed. Last Saturday (7), the athlete was officially announced in the co-main event of UFC Casa Branca , an event scheduled to take place on June 14th in Washington (USA). As the renowned striker could win his third belt in a different weight class in the company, Dana White praised him.

In the post-UFC 326 press conference, the organization's president made a point of praising Poatan not only for being a knockout artist and winner, but also for his bold and professional attitude throughout his career. In fact, this wasn't the first time Dana White had praised the Brazilian. Recently, the executive, who had previously opposed the athlete's move up to heavyweight, changed his mind.

Dana revealed that he would work with the renowned striker to give him the chance to become the first triple champion in UFC history and, days later, granted him that opportunity. But for this to happen, Poatan will have to beat Gane, one of the most respected and feared heavyweights. Precisely because he recognizes the Frenchman's quality, the UFC president issued an important warning to the Brazilian.

“Well, Alex is the kind of guy who wants to fight everyone, every weekend. He’s simply one of the most unique guys we’ve ever dealt with. And we all agree that if that’s what he wants to do, he deserves it. It’s absolutely incredible,” said the executive.

“We’ll see how it goes. The fight against Gane is very interesting for him, because Gane doesn’t move like most heavyweights. So, it promises to be a very entertaining fight,” he concluded.

Terror of former champions

Alex Poatan , 38, rose to fame in kickboxing with Glory and made his UFC debut in 2021. From there, the Brazilian experienced a meteoric rise, becoming one of the organization's main stars.

Not surprisingly, the athlete won the middleweight (up to 83,9 kg) and light heavyweight (up to 93 kg) belts. Furthermore, the renowned striker has a record that includes former champions: Israel Adesanya , Jamahal Hill , Jan Błachowicz, Jiri Prochazka (twice), Magomed Ankalaev , and Sean Strickland.
