Islam Makhachev has a different version of events than Ilia Topuria regarding why their fight wasn't announced for UFC Casa Branca , scheduled for June 14th. After being confirmed as the main event fighter against Justin Gaethje , the Spaniard used social media to accuse the Russian of refusing the fight, a narrative that the Dagestani fighter claims is untrue.

In a post on 'X', Makhachev refuted Topuria's statements and asserted that it was his rival who avoided the confrontation. The Dagestani also criticized the accusations made by the Spaniard on social media and stated that, when the encounter finally happens, he will be willing to face him without any extra financial demands, even mocking his opponent's manager.

Since Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Topuria, and Makhachev failed to reach an agreement for the fight, the organization decided to proceed and put the Spaniard on a collision course with the interim lightweight champion (up to 70,3 kg). The duel against Justin Gaethje could define the future of the undisputed title in the division.

Aware that the American is managed by Ali Abdelaziz, the same person responsible for the Russian's career, 'El Matador' guaranteed that his current rival will end up paying for Islam Makhachev 's alleged escape.
