Without competing since 2024, Philipe Lins is back in action on one of the biggest stages ever seen in combat sports. The Brazilian, a former UFC fighter, will face the feared Francis Ngannou in Netflix's first MMA event, scheduled to take place on May 16th in California (USA). As expected, the veteran celebrated this unique opportunity in his career.
At the press conference to promote the show, Philipe openly expressed his happiness at being remembered, sharing the stage with big names in combat sports, and showed no intimidation. On the contrary, even aware of his status as a major underdog for the fight, the Brazilian ignored his long period of inactivity and promised to shock the world against the former UFC heavyweight champion (up to 120,2 kg).
It's worth noting that the veteran wasn't Ngannou's first choice of opponent, but since Rico Verhoeven opted to fight in boxing, he ended up being chosen. Therefore, Philipe, despite his gratitude, aims to spoil the party and be a spoilsport at the grand Netflix event in partnership with 'Most Valuable Promotions', Jake Paul 's company.
“I took two years off and asked God for another opportunity. He sent me this great opportunity. Fighting in Netflix’s first MMA event with so many legends like Ronda, Gina, and Ngannou is the biggest opportunity of my entire career. We’re going to make history, and being a part of this is incredible ,” said the fighter.
“I feel blessed. As soon as my manager called me and said, ‘Are you going to fight Ngannou live on Netflix?’, I accepted immediately: ‘Yes, we have a deal. Send the contract.’ It’s a great opportunity. First of all, Ngannou is one of the greatest heavyweights of all time.”
“This fight will be the biggest challenge I will face in my entire career. All due respect to Ngannou, but a victory over him will put my name in MMA history forever. So, it’s a masterpiece and all due respect to him and his history in the sport, but on May 16th, live on Netflix, I will shock the world ,” he concluded.
