Despite emerging victorious from the fight, Charles Johnson did not hide his surprise upon hearing the score against Bruno Bulldog . The American, who defeated the Brazilian via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) at UFC Vegas 114 , this past Saturday (14), in Las Vegas (USA), revealed in an interview that he did not expect to leave the octagon with that outcome.
In the post-event press conference, Johnson explained that he expected a unanimous decision victory, not a split decision. According to his calculations, his volume of strikes and movement aimed at blocking the Brazilian were sufficient to ensure his dominance in the fight was not questioned.
“I was very confident when I heard 30-27. I thought I had won every round. It was very strange that it was a split decision, because in my view I won all the rounds. He couldn't get takedowns, he just pressed me against the cage.”
“I was nullifying all takedown attempts and connecting with elbows and knees in the clinch. My back was against the cage, but that wasn't scoring points for him. That's why I found it strange that they only gave me two rounds because of that,” Charles Johnson said at the press conference.
