In November, in New York (USA), Islam Makhachev made history and expanded his legacy in MMA. The Russian dominated Jack Della Maddalena and won the welterweight title (up to 77,1 kg), entering the select hall of champions in two different weight classes in the UFC. Since then, there has been much speculation about who the renowned fighter will defend his title against for the first time, but Dana White still doesn't have an answer.

With several fights between top fighters announced, Ian Garry , Kamaru Usman , and Michael Morales remain in contention to challenge Makhachev. The Irishman even hinted at facing the champion after posting videos of his wrestling training during a visit to Georgia. However, despite the athlete's current good form and second-place ranking, the UFC president ignored him and remained secretive about the Russian's next fight.

It's true that Dana didn't rule out Garry, but he made it clear that the biggest concern is Makhachev's recovery. It's worth noting that the Irishman, irritated by the uncertainty surrounding his weight class, accused the champion of lying about the injury and complained, claiming that he invented the problem because he wanted more time to prepare. And, according to the UFC president, the mystery will be solved in due time for the Russian.

“Makhachev is recovering from an injury, a hand injury. As soon as he is ready, we will decide what comes next for him,” said the official at the post- UFC London press conference , an event held last Saturday (21).
