Charles "Do Bronx" Oliveira has a new meaning for the BMF belt. The Brazilian faced Max Holloway in the main event of UFC 326 and, after dominating the Hawaiian for five rounds, earned the symbolic title of "baddest motherfucker" in the roster. However, his performance didn't please some fans, who expected a stand-up fight worthy of the title, but the "Bad Lion" has an explanation.
In an interview with Canal Encarada, Charles do Bronx explained that the meaning of the BMF belt has undergone a transformation over time. According to the Brazilian, initially the title was linked to fighters who stood out more for their provocations outside the octagon, but it gained a new connotation when Holloway won it, coming to represent a combative athlete within the fight, without necessarily resorting to controversial statements.

“Like I said, ‘What does the BMF belt mean to you?’ When it was created, it was for the guy who was always talking trash on the internet. After Max became champion, (the title) became about the fighter, because he was never one to talk nonsense. So I’m sure (the meaning of the title) has been changing,” said Charles do Bronx.
Now a champion, Do Bronx stated that he sees the BMF as a symbol of overcoming adversity. The Brazilian also indicated that the meaning will remain tied to his story until someone manages to defeat him and take the belt.
“And today BMF stands for the kid who came from the community to the world and has a gigantic story, and showed that he has a different kind of Jiu-Jitsu. And today BMF stands for that until someone comes to take it from me, then you guys can invent something. Because today it belongs to Brazil,” concluded the BMF champion.
