After two consecutive defeats, Renato Moicano finally ended the bad phase in his career. This Saturday (4), in the main fight of ufc vegas 115The Brazilian faced Chris Duncan, his former training partner at the 'American Top Team' academy, and was confident in the octagon, delivering a flawless performance. The veteran bounced back in the lightweight division (up to 70,3 kg) by easily submitting the Scotsman in the second round.
With this important victory, Moicano defended his tenth position in the highly competitive lightweight division rankings, ended Duncan's four-fight winning streak, and relieved the pressure in the UFC. With the microphone in hand, the always vocal and enthusiastic Brazilian asked to face a big name in the lightweight division or else threatened to retire from MMA. Now, the veteran has a record of 21 wins, seven losses, and one draw.
Mohawk's Monologue
The fight began with Moicano moving forward and Duncan throwing low kicks. Calmly, Moicano landed a powerful straight punch on Duncan. Then, Duncan threw kicks at Moicano and landed a good straight punch. Without hesitation, Moicano clinched with Duncan and took him to the cage, but couldn't control him. Again, Moicano sought a grappling exchange, but Duncan countered.
Next, Duncan tried to surprise Moicano with a high kick and a jab. Focused on grappling, Moicano again clung to Duncan, but Duncan moved away. Standing, the fighters exchanged jabs. Loose in the octagon, Moicano landed good kicks and jabs on Duncan. In the end, Duncan tried to catch Moicano, but couldn't touch him.
In the second round, the fighters started by exchanging punches. Duncan was more aggressive, while Moicano was more precise. Upon receiving a blow, Moicano counter-attacked with a punch, staggering Duncan. On the ground, Moicano took Duncan's back, threatened a submission, and delivered punches. A jiu-jitsu specialist, Moicano controlled the bloodied Duncan and submitted him via rear-naked choke.
