Steve Garcia is already planning his next moves even before facing Diego Lopes . The American will face the Brazilian on the UFC Casa Branca card , scheduled for June 14th, and, despite recognizing the danger posed by the jiu-jitsu specialist, already has a possible matchup in mind against Alexander Volkanovski.
During an appearance on the 'Undefeated and Undisputed podcast', Garcia stated that he believes Volkanovski should consider retirement and indicated that, should the former champion continue competing, he himself might be responsible for ending his career. Even so, the American made a point of acknowledging the magnitude of the immediate challenge and reiterated that he does not intend to underestimate Diego Lopes.

“Honestly, I think Volk should retire, because if he doesn’t, I’m going to retire him. That’s what’s going through my head right now. But, again, I have a huge challenge ahead of me. I’m not going to ignore Diego Lopes . It would be stupid to do that,” said Steve Garcia.
The prospect assessed that Volkanovski no longer performs at the same level as in previous years and highlighted that he sees clear paths to surpass him. Confident, Garcia stated that, should he have the opportunity to face him, he believes he is capable of winning.
“In my head, every time I see Volk, I think: man, he’s not the same Volk he used to be… He’s not. And there are ways to beat this guy. And I think that if I get to him, I can do it,” Garcia concluded.
