It's not new that MMA provides controversial moments and the most recent one happened precisely in Brazil. At Centurion FC 28, an event held last Wednesday (8), in São Paulo, the referee was the true protagonist of the fight between Luciano Oliveira Ribeiro and Elismar Lima, valid for the welterweight GP, and for a controversial reason. The professional decided to end the duel judging that the second was not in a condition to compete after the opponent's submission attempt and ended up being harshly criticized.
The fight ended in one round largely due to the referee's decision. In a dominant position on the ground, Luciano applied a tight guillotine choke on Elismar who, despite the adverse and worrying situation, signaled to the referee in a clear attempt to indicate that he was conscious.

However, the referee, right on top of the action, ignored Elismar's gesture and, even though he hadn't tapped out or passed out, stopped the fight, declaring Luciano the winner by submission. It's true that, while defending himself, Lima quickly touched Ribeiro's thigh before signaling that he was okay, an act that may have caused the professional to act rashly. Feeling wronged, 'Carrasco' complained and didn't hide his disappointment in the cage.
Defeat in sequence
After controversially defeating Elismar, Luciano secured a spot in the main event of Centurion FC 28, but he was not at all lucky there. The veteran faced Yuri Popeye, who made his MMA debut at the event, and ended up being submitted in the second round.
