Charles Oliveira is willing to defend his BMF belt against Nate Diaz , as long as the fight doesn't interfere with his plans to compete for the undisputed lightweight title (up to 70,3 kg). The Brazilian entered the main event of UFC 326 against Max Holloway , and after dominating the Hawaiian, he assumed the title of 'baddest motherfucker' in the organization, a symbolic trophy created by the American bad boy, who is now reclaiming his former status.

In an interview with 'Central do MMA', Charles downplayed Nate Diaz 's statements , saying that his rival often talks nonsense and recalling that when he had the opportunity to win the belt, he ended up being defeated by Jorge Masvidal . The Brazilian said he doesn't understand the American's claim and reinforced that his main focus is the pursuit of the undisputed title. Even so, he admitted that if the title fight takes a long time to happen, he doesn't rule out facing the Bad Boy.

“Man, honestly, Nate has been talking a lot of nonsense, like he always has his whole life. He said I have the belt that used to be his, but when he had the opportunity to fight, he didn't win, he lost. So, I don't understand what this situation is about. It's like I said: I'm looking for a title and I have to understand what the UFC is trying to do, right? But, if we see that it's going to take a while, why doesn't he come back and try again to get what's his? Why not?”, said Charles do Bronx.

After defeating Max Holloway , Charles Oliveira faced criticism for adopting a grappling strategy for the fight, instead of the stand-up striking that some fans expected. In an interview with the Encarada channel, the 'Blurred Lion' defended his stance and stated that the symbolic title now has a new meaning.

Charles explained that the BMF belt has undergone a transformation over time. According to the Brazilian, initially the title was linked to fighters who stood out more for their provocations outside the octagon, but it gained a new connotation when Holloway won it, coming to represent a combative athlete within the fight, without necessarily resorting to controversial statements.

“'What does the BMF belt mean to you?' When it was created, it was for the guy who was always talking trash on the internet. After Max became champion, (the title) became about the fighter… And today the BMF means the kid who came from the community to the world and has a gigantic story, and showed that he has a different kind of Jiu-Jitsu. And today the BMF means that until someone comes to take it from me, then you guys invent something. Because today it belongs to Brazil.”, concluded the BMF champion.
