In February, in Australia, Diego Lopes suffered a tough defeat in his career. On that occasion, the Brazilian fought for the featherweight title (up to 65,8 kg) for the second time and was defeated by champion Alexander Volkanovski by unanimous decision again. Aware that he is unlikely to fight for the title in the category in the near future, 'Franja' expressed interest in moving to lightweight (up to 70,3 kg), but his wish was not granted.

In an interview on the 'Hablemos MMA' podcast, Diego revealed that the organization prevented him from changing weight classes, at least for now. Even knowing of the Brazilian's intention to move up to lightweight, the company gave him another fight in the featherweight division. Now, the athlete will face knockout artist Steve Garcia , who is currently enjoying a great run in his career, at UFC Casa Branca , an event scheduled for June 14th.

“I heard about it and also received many comments. I didn't watch the fight or the event because I was busy with other things. Honestly, it's interesting because I've already talked about my desire to move up to lightweight. I don't want to say unfortunately, but for now, the UFC is keeping me at featherweight. But, for sure, if the UFC gives me the chance to move up to lightweight, Gamrot would be a good fight,” said the fighter.

Diego Lopes , 31, is a popular and exciting fighter, and one of the best in the featherweight division. The Brazilian began his MMA career in 2012, debuted in the UFC in 2023, and became a sensation. Not surprisingly, he has fought for the division's title twice.
Currently, 'Franja' is ranked second in the division. In the sport, the professional has built a record of 27 wins, 23 by stoppage (12 by submission and 11 by knockout), and eight losses. His main victories were over Brian Ortega , Dan Ige , Jean Silva , and Sodiq Yusuff.
