Durinho started the fight with good movement, avoiding standing still in front of his opponent. In the first few minutes, the Brazilian connected with a hook and cross combination, but was quickly answered with two crosses from the Canadian. In a careless attempt at a kick, he ended up being hit by a strong straight right from Malott, which rocked him before the end of a round still marked by both fighters studying each other.
In the second round, Burns returned more aggressively, relying on low kicks and takedown attempts. However, he struggled to impose his game, as Malott defended well and controlled the distance with jabs. Midway through the round, the Canadian landed a powerful uppercut that visibly shook Durinho. Confident, he began to pressure and advance with hard strikes in succession.
The third round began with Durinho insisting on takedowns, which were again neutralized by his opponent. Malott continued to corner the Brazilian and, with another uppercut, managed to knock him down. Even getting up quickly, the former title challenger couldn't withstand the pressure: he ended up being knocked down again after an overwhelming sequence of blows, which led the referee to stop the fight.
