Ilia Topuria didn't mince words when commenting on a possible confrontation with Conor McGregor and was candid about his view of the Irishman's current form. The Georgian-Spanish fighter has a duel scheduled against Justin Gaethje for the unification of the lightweight belt (up to 70,3 kg) at UFC White House on June 14th in Washington DC (USA), but he doesn't rule out a fight against the former two-time champion in the octagon.

In an interview with 'The Ariel Helwani Show', Topuria acknowledged the popularity of the former UFC double champion, indicated that he would accept the fight if McGregor were to make a consistent comeback, but placed his rival on a lower level. According to the Georgian-Spanish fighter, their paths are diverging in terms of performance.

“If they offer me that fight, we’ll see. If he gets a win, makes a comeback and wins the next fight, and I receive that offer, then we’ll see. I never close the door on that kind of opportunity, even if we’re not on the same level now. Maybe, in terms of popularity, he’s bigger and better known. But, sport-wise, we all know he’s practically finished,” said Ilia Topuria.

Does Conor McGregor already have a fight scheduled with the UFC?

While the Georgian-Spanish fighter already has a fight scheduled, Conor McGregor , former featherweight (up to 65,8 kg) and lightweight champion, is anticipating a return and, according to Ariel Helwani, could return to the octagon in July , after a positive meeting with the UFC.

“Conor’s recent meeting with the UFC was positive. Something very serious would have to happen for him not to fight on July 11th. They need this now more than ever,” stated Ariel Helwani.

McGregor, who has a record of 22 wins and six losses in his professional career, hasn't fought since July 2021, when he lost to Dustin Poirier after suffering a serious leg injury. Given this scenario, a potential fight between Topuria and the Irishman is unlikely to happen in the short term, as both have different plans.
