Even in retirement, Dustin Poirier still doesn't seem entirely satisfied with his MMA career. 'The Diamond' hung up his gloves after his loss to Max Holloway at UFC 316 in June 2025. Still, the former interim champion indicates he might consider a comeback under specific circumstances.
During an appearance on the UFC on Paramount+ program, Poirier, who was previously slated to fight Nate Diaz , expressed interest in the fight, suggesting he would come out of retirement to face his rival.

The fight between the two was officially scheduled for UFC 230 in 2018. However, the fight was ultimately canceled after Poirier suffered a hip injury.
Since then, the rivalry has extended beyond the octagon, with accusations being exchanged about the reason for the cancellation. Diaz maintains that his opponent avoided the fight, while Poirier points to difficulties in negotiations, citing contractual demands from his rival.
