Welterweight legend sees Carlos Prates close to making UFC history; find out why.

Carlos Prates is making his mark among the big names in the UFC welterweight division (up to 77 kg). After knocking out Jack Della Maddalena at UFC Perth , held last Saturday (2), in Australia, the Brazilian received praise from one of the biggest names in the category: Matt Brown, current record holder for knockouts in the division. For the American, 'Fumante' would be a good name to break his record.

During an appearance on the podcast 'The Fighter vs. The Writer', the American veteran commented on the possibility of Prates breaking his historic record in the future. Brown revealed his admiration for the Brazilian and highlighted the connection created between the two over the years, stating that he would be happy if the Fighting Nerds athlete reached the top of the list.

"I'll tell you one thing: if it had to be anyone, I'd be happy if it was him. If it were Matt Hughes , maybe I'd be a little more bothered. Not Prates. I've been a big fan of his for quite some time. I even met him when I went to fight in Chicago."

Beyond personal admiration, Matt Brown also analyzed the Brazilian's dominant performance against Della Maddalena and highlighted the technical evolution shown in the octagon. According to the former fighter, Prates displayed a much more complete arsenal than just knockout power.

"It seems like Carlos really stepped up in this fight. He raised his level. What's most impressive is that it wasn't just a one-hit knockout. It was the variety. Leg kicks, knees, punches, elbows, clinching... everything working."

"Aside from the fact that he was taken down fairly easily a few times, but let's leave that aside. In the striking exchanges, he was spectacular from every angle. And, once again, it was precisely this variety that made the difference against Jack," said Matt Brown during an appearance on the podcast 'The Fighter vs. The Writer'.

With his victory at UFC Perth , Carlos Prates achieved his seventh win within the organization, all by knockout. The result placed the Brazilian in fifth position among the greatest knockout artists in UFC welterweight history.

Currently, Matt Brown leads the rankings with 13 knockouts in the category. 'The Smoker' has seven wins in the same manner. If he maintains his current pace in the octagon, Prates will need seven more victories to surpass the American.
