Ciryl Gane faces a dilemma before fighting Alex Poatan at UFC Casa Branca , an event that takes place this Sunday (14), in Washington (USA). Despite being a decorated professional and having been at the top of the heavyweight division (up to 120,2 kg) for years, many fans and MMA professionals are finding the Frenchman's behavior in combat strange, even questioning his ethics. Aware of the negative perception about him, the former interim champion defended himself.
According to some in the MMA community, Gane has been constantly involved in controversial and illegal moves, such as punching his opponents in the back of the head and poking them in the eyes. Tom Aspinall , angered by the Frenchman's behavior in the octagon, even called him a "dirty fighter," a move supported by many. "Bon Gamin" responded by denying the negative label.

In his defense, Gane made it clear that he has no intention of harming his opponents or using tricks to gain an advantage in combat. However, Aspinall wasn't the only fighter who complained about the Frenchman. Earlier, Junior Cigano stated that he was wronged in the fight because he received an illegal blow from his opponent, and Jon Jones revealed that, due to Ciryl's controversial history, he warned the referee before defeating him.
“That’s his opinion. We had an excellent professional referee. The referee didn’t say anything to me because I respect the rules. It’s just an opinion. Everyone has their own opinion, and that’s normal. But right after the fight, in the octagon, I was feeling a mix of emotions, like, a little frustrated, angry, and sad, because I thought about all the sacrifice I made,” said the athlete at the UFC White House media day.
“It was a good first round. Now, I’m injury-free and healthy. Right after the fight, I was a little confused, but then everything was fine and I said, ‘Okay, we’ll have a rematch’,” he concluded.
Aspinall's irritation with Gane
The last time Tom Aspinall fought in the UFC was in October, in Abu Dhabi (UAE), in the controversial fight against Ciryl Gane . This was because the duel ended in the first round, without a result, due to the Frenchman poking the heavyweight champion in the eyes. Unable to see, the Englishman was unable to continue and was harshly criticized by many, who felt he exaggerated the illegal strikes. Even Dana White questioned the severity of the injury suffered by the athlete.
Immediately after the fight, Aspinall went to the hospital and underwent a series of tests, which confirmed that his eyes were indeed severely affected by Gane's attacks. Because the Englishman's recovery time would be long, the UFC officially scheduled the fight between Alex Poatan and 'Bon Gamin' for the interim title in the division. The case was so serious that the athlete is only now returning to training.
