If it depends on Justin Gaethje , Ilia Topuria will have to rebuild his path to a new title fight. Newly crowned undisputed lightweight champion (up to 70,3 kg), the American indicated that he sees no reason to grant an immediate rematch to the former title holder. After the triumph in the main event of UFC Casa Branca , held last Sunday (14), in Washington DC (USA).

In a post-fight press conference, Gaethje stated that the physical condition of the two athletes at the end of the fight highlighted the difference between their performances inside the octagon. The champion emphasized that Topuria needed medical attention and was taken to the hospital after the fight, while he left the arena without major injuries.

“I would say no. I made him give up on the stool. I don’t want to say anything bad about him. He’s a world champion, but he’s in the hospital right now, and I’m not,” declared the new belt holder.

The victory represented a historic moment for the American, who achieved the undisputed title in the category for the first time, after years among the top names in the division. Known for his aggressive style and memorable battles, the fighter managed to interrupt Topuria's undefeated streak and end the reign of the then lightweight champion.

Despite initially denying a rematch, the situation in the division remains uncertain. Before the fight, the Georgian fighter had accumulated impressive victories over Charles Oliveira , Max Holloway , and Alexander Volkanovski . Therefore, a potential comeback fight for the former champion could quickly put him back in contention for the title.
