Justin Gaethje 's outstanding performance in the main event of UFC Casa Branca did much more than just end Ilia Topuria 's undefeated streak and crown the American as the new lightweight champion (up to 70,3 kg). "The Star" reached the top of the most populous category in MMA in one of the biggest upsets in the sport's history and, as a bonus, also achieved a historic feat: at 37 years old, he became the oldest fighter to win the division title.

This was the third time that Destaque fought for the undisputed title. He had previously been defeated by Khabib Nurmagomedov and Charles Oliveira in 2020 and 2022. Gaethje won the fight after four extremely hard-fought rounds. At the end of the fourth round, Topuria's corner decided to stop the fight after the Georgian proved unable to continue competing.

The American became the first athlete to defeat Topuria in MMA. The Georgian/Spanish fighter was champion in both the lightweight (up to 70,3 kg) and featherweight (up to 65,7 kg) divisions, and was second only to Islam Makhachev in the world pound-for-pound rankings.
