On his official 'X' account, Covington, known for his boundless trash talk, showed he's still sharp, not only mocking Poirier but also making light of the situation and his current predicament. It's worth remembering that, after announcing his retirement from MMA in July, the UFC legend admitted he misses competing and revealed that alcohol has become his constant companion.

To make matters worse, before being arrested, Poirier, who was removed from the flight, insulted airline employees and challenged one of the police officers to a fight. Without wasting any time, Covington, who has always stated that his former 'American Top Team' teammate was never a good role model, celebrated his downfall.

“I’ve been telling you exactly who Poirier is off-camera for years! Now, finally, you’ll all see how he earned the nickname ‘Louisiana Swamp Trash.’ I will accept all your apologies. Nothing better demonstrates the character of a family man and a role model than being arrested for public intoxication at age 37, at 18:38 p.m. on Father’s Day,” the athlete wrote.

“Give me a call when you get out of jail, Poirier, and I’ll send you some RAB Zero (non-alcoholic beer) for the ‘father of the year.’ I’ve been getting a lot of comments about my opinion regarding Poirier’s situation. I just wanted to take this moment to acknowledge that. Poirier is battling his personal demons and his intrusive racist thoughts,” he concluded.

“I’ve reached a point where I need help. Quitting fighting hasn’t been easy for me and alcohol isn’t the solution. It ruined my father’s life and I won’t let it ruin mine. My family deserves me 100%. I’m trying to do everything I can to get my mind right and take the right steps,” the UFC legend wrote on his official Instagram account.
