Conor McGregor promises a great performance in rematch against Max Holloway: 'I'm going to give a masterclass'

Without a doubt, the Notorious is back. In the countdown to returning to the most famous octagon in the world on July 11, Conor McGregor has been doing everything possible to promote the fight with Max Holloway , the main event of UFC 329. In an interview with Paramount last Wednesday (24), the biggest star in the history of the sport came out to make it clear that he doesn't just believe in victory, but that it will come through complete domination against the Blessed One.

When discussing the aspects that will guide the confrontation, the Irishman didn't fail to mention the first fight between the two, which he won by unanimous decision in August 2013. At the time, both were young fighters on the rise in the featherweight category (up to 65,7 kg), aged 25 and 22 respectively. For McGregor, the duel was fundamental for Holloway's development and his rise to the top of the category.

“I don’t see much progress (in Max Holloway ). In fact, the improvements he showed came after his fight with me, when he incorporated some of my moves. After that, he won a world title. I gave Max a lesson in our last fight and I intend to do the same again, in an even more overwhelming way,” he declared.

On that occasion, the Notorious injured his left knee during the fight, tearing his Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL). Despite the victory, the injury forced him to stay away from the octagon for almost a year, returning in July of the following year against Brazilian Diego Brandão to maintain one of the most impressive title ascents of all time.

While the Irishman suffered an injury in his first fight with Holloway, the rematch marks McGregor's return to the octagon five years after fracturing his left leg during their third duel against Dustin Poirier in July 2021. Furthermore, the rematch will also mark the Hawaiian's debut in the welterweight division (up to 77,1 kg), a category in which Conor has competed three times against Nate Diaz and Donald Cerrone.
