The start of the fight seemed to indicate 25 minutes of high-level stand-up fighting, but Rafael Fiziev took care of ending any expectation of a decision. In the main event of UFC Baku , held this Saturday (27), the home athlete surprised by combining his traditional striking with takedowns in the first round and returned to finish the fight with a spectacular knockout in the second round.
At 33 years old, Fiziev returned to the octagon determined to reclaim his place among the elite of the lightweight division (up to 70,3 kg). A Muay Thai specialist, the Azerbaijani athlete is known for his speed, creativity, and high level of striking. After facing some of the top names in the category and being knocked out by Mauricio Ruffy in his last fight, the Azerbaijani returned to winning ways in great style.

The home fighter started the fight at an intense pace and gave Manuel Torres no room to maneuver . The Azerbaijani landed a precise straight right in the opening seconds, surprised everyone by taking him down in the first minute, and controlled the action with good movement, kicks, and straight punches. Torres even rocked his opponent with a powerful straight right at the end of the first round, marking the first time a fight for the Mexican in the UFC went beyond the first round.
In the second round, however, the Azerbaijani fighter finished the fight spectacularly. The lightweight landed a perfect spinning kick to Torres' head, instantly knocking the Mexican down. He then followed up with a flurry of strikes on the ground until the referee stopped the fight, securing a technical knockout in front of the Baku crowd, ending his losing streak and re-establishing his name among the top contenders in the division.
