Ian Garry declares himself the next UFC superstar and intends to bring the event back to Dublin.

Scheduled to fight for the welterweight title (up to 77,1 kg) against Islam Makhachev in the main event of UFC 330 , Ian Garry remains confident that he is about to reach a new level in the organization. Besides believing in winning the title, the Irishman sees the fight as the beginning of a new phase for MMA in his country, both inside and outside the octagon.

During a Matchroom Boxing press conference, Garry highlighted the achievement he could reach in his next fight. If he defeats Makhachev, he will achieve his 11th victory in the UFC and become the fighter from his country with the most wins in the organization's history. The challenger also reaffirmed his desire to put Dublin back on the company's calendar.

“In my next fight, I will be the Irishman with the most wins in the UFC, 11. I am the next Irish MMA superstar. I want to bring the UFC back to Dublin,” declared the challenger.

At 28 years old, Garry believes that a victory over Makhachev will not only secure him the welterweight title, but also solidify him as the new face of MMA and as one of the top pound-for-pound fighters . The fighter sees himself as the natural successor to Conor McGregor and bets that a dominant reign will be enough to convince the UFC to once again hold an event in Dublin, a city that hasn't hosted the organization in years.

Last UFC event in Dublin

The last time the UFC held an event in Dublin was in October 2015, when it promoted UFC Fight Night 76: Holohan vs. Smolka at the 3Arena. Since then, despite the growth of MMA in the country and the rise of new talent, the event has never returned.

Scheduled for August 15th, UFC 330 will feature a main event: the welterweight title fight between Islam Makhachev and Ian Garry . Beyond the title bout, the fight also revives a rivalry that marked one of the most emblematic periods in the organization's recent history: Russia versus Ireland.

A disciple of Khabib Nurmagomedov and the main representative of the Dagestani fighting school today, Makhachev carries on the legacy left by the former undefeated lightweight champion (up to 70,3kg). On the other side, Garry emerges as the main Irish star of the new generation and seeks to repeat the prominence that Conor McGregor brought to the country during his meteoric rise in the organization.

Although lacking the personal rivalry that marked the historic confrontation between Khabib and McGregor, the duel puts Russia and Ireland back in the spotlight of the UFC. This time, in addition to national pride, the welterweight title and a prominent position at the highest level of the sport will be at stake.
