Jon Jones declares himself a fan of Conor McGregor and admits he's rooting for the Irishman at UFC 329

With Conor McGregor 's return to the world's most famous octagon drawing closer , the Notorious is once again receiving statements from several relevant names in the sport. In this context, the legendary Jon Jones came forward last Wednesday (2) in an interview with 'Red Corner MMA' to talk about the Irishman's duel against Max Holloway in the main event of UFC 329 , which takes place on July 11, as part of International Fight Week in Las Vegas.

Bones revealed he has great admiration for McGregor. Beyond his skills inside the octagon, the former light heavyweight (up to 93 kg) and heavyweight (up to 120,2 kg) champion highlighted the Irishman's competitive spirit in returning to competition after a five-year absence, as well as his contributions regarding the management of his own career.

“Conor doesn’t need to fight. He has everything, and I respect the fact that he’s coming back to fight because it just shows that he’s a fighter at heart. I’m rooting for him, I’m proud of him, and he’s simply incredible. The businessman he’s been for our sport teaches fighters that we can be more than just fighters. I’m a big fan, and I think I will be for the rest of my life,” he declared.

The date of the rematch with Holloway coincides with the five-year anniversary of the injury that sidelined the Notorious from the sport for so long. In 2021, during the trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier in the main event of UFC 264 , the Irishman fractured his left leg at the end of the third round, becoming unable to continue fighting and losing by technical knockout. Since then, he has been involved in a series of controversies outside the octagon, including being convicted in a civil case for rape.
