Junior Cigano will not face Fabricio Werdum for the third time in his career this time. Originally, the former UFC heavyweight champions (up to 120,2 kg) were scheduled to have a trilogy fight at 'Kings Championship', an event led by renowned coach Rafael Cordeiro and which will take place on August 8th in Florianópolis, but the duel has been cancelled. 'JDS' himself announced the cancellation.
On his official Instagram account, Cigano made a point of explaining why the fight, announced in May, didn't happen. Always candid, the athlete highlighted that, as he will be out of the country during that period, he was unable to fulfill the commitment.
The interesting thing is that the trilogy between the rivals would take place in grappling, a modality in which Werdum has a significant advantage and could even secure his first victory. In any case, Cigano, who doesn't shy away from a good fight, has shown himself open to rescheduling it against 'Vai Cavalo' soon.

“I have an important clarification to make. I believe you all followed the possibility of a third fight between me and Werdum, and this time it was going to be more grappling-focused, which would have been a problem for me. Isn't that right? But that's okay, I was willing to face that challenge. But things didn't end up going as we expected,” said the former UFC champion.
“We had some setbacks and this confrontation between me and Werdum is not going to happen. Just to make that clear to you. I won't be in Brazil in August. Unfortunately, it won't be this time, maybe in the near future we'll be able to make this third confrontation happen, but it won't be now. It couldn't be now. Maybe it was even a communication failure on our part, we didn't make that clear to you,” he concluded.
What were the two fights between Cigano and Werdum like?
In their first encounter, which took place in the UFC in 2008, Cigano dominated Werdum, knocking him out in just over a minute in his debut. In the rematch, held at Gamebred FC, a bare-knuckle MMA company led by Jorge Masvidal , in 2023, 'JDS' once again defeated 'Vai Cavalo' via decision.

Junior Cigano , 42, is an MMA legend who, at his peak, astonished the world in the UFC with his boxing skills and knockout power. The Brazilian began his career in the sport in 2006, debuted in the company in 2008, and became heavyweight champion in 2011. In the sport, he built a record of 23 wins and eleven losses. His main victories were over Cain Velasquez , Derrick Lewis , Fabricio Werdum (twice), Frank Mir , Mark Hunt , Mirko Cro Cop, Roy Nelson , Shane Carwin , and Stipe Miocic.
