It's no secret that, like Khabib Nurmagomedov , Islam Makhachev is a football fan. In fact, the UFC welterweight champion (up to 77,1 kg) attended the 2026 World Cup final between Argentina and Spain, held last Sunday (19), in New Jersey (USA). Known for his good humor outside the octagon, the MMA legend didn't spare a Lionel Messi fan, much less the match itself.
In a post shared on social media by businessman Ali Abdelaziz, Makhachev criticized the game that gave Spain its second World Cup title. And, in fact, the World Cup final was anything but balanced, much less exciting.

Despite dominating possession, the Spanish passed the ball around aimlessly rather than creating real scoring chances. On the other hand, Argentina, even with Messi on the field, abandoned the game and barely managed any shots on goal. The result was only decided in extra time, with Ferran Torres securing the victory for La Furia Roja. As if disapproving of the level of the match wasn't enough, the Russian also mocked a follower of the football genius.
"A really bad game, honestly. Very boring, but it's okay," said the UFC champion.
