As the most successful fighter in MMA history, Jon Jones is expected to have plenty of advice for the new generation. In this context, Bones recently spoke publicly in an interview with 'Red Corner MMA' about the situation of Khamzat Chimaev , who suffered his first professional defeat to Sean Strickland in the main event of UFC 328 in May of this year.

According to the former light heavyweight (up to 93 kg) and heavyweight (up to 120,2 kg) champion, the setback suffered may give the Chechen the opportunity to reinvent himself and evolve technically, precisely by analyzing the confrontation with the American.

“I’m a big fan of Khamzat. It was hard to see him lose. It really was. I was very surprised by that fight. If I were Khamzat, I would work on my weaknesses. It’s something I do myself before every fight: I analyze the fight and think: ‘How can this person beat me? Where are they strong? Where do they consider me weak?’ I would suggest changing my stamina routine—maybe doing something different—and spending more time fighting from the bottom. Khamzat kicks very well, boxes very well, and is an excellent wrestler, especially when he gets that body grip, but we don’t see him fighting from the bottom very often. I would rethink the strategy. I would learn to feel comfortable in that position, develop a solid jiu-jitsu game from the bottom, and focus mainly on mentality. I imagine that a loss can change a fighter’s mentality, their confidence, and how they see themselves. Focus on your mentality. Losses happen. Sometimes, the best version of people emerges after a loss,” he stated.

Khamzat Chimaev could still fight for the belt again.

Despite the setback, the uncertainty in the middleweight division (up to 83,9 kg) combined with Lobo's media power could guarantee Chimaev an immediate rematch. Conversely, Nassourdine Imavov recently stated that the UFC has guaranteed him the position of number one contender in the division.

Johnny Walker opens up about his heavyweight debut at UFC 332.
