Robelis Despaigne is back in the UFC heavyweight division (up to 120,2 kg) after almost two years away from the organization. During this period, the Cuban remained active in Karate Combat, where he had seven fights, winning six by knockout and one by unanimous decision. His performance earned him the event's belt and brought his name back into the spotlight in the combat sports scene. The return was announced by the athlete's management team this Friday.

In MMA, Despaigne once again drew attention by participating in the first event of the sport broadcast on Netflix. In his performance, the Cuban giant knocked out former UFC champion Junior Cigano in the first round, once again demonstrating the power of his striking.

Known by the nickname "The Big Boy," Robelis initially built his career in taekwondo, a sport in which he represented Cuba at the 2012 London Olympics, winning the bronze medal in the over 80 kg category. His experience in Olympic sports helped develop one of the fighter's main strengths: speed and precision in long-range strikes.

A forgettable stint in the UFC

Despite his background in taekwondo, the Cuban is still looking to solidify his place among the top heavyweight fighters in the UFC. In his first stint with the organization, he made his mark with a lightning-fast knockout of Josh Parisian in just 18 seconds, but suffered decision losses to Waldo Cortes-Acosta and Austen Lane before leaving the roster.

Now back in the octagon, Despaigne arrives with more MMA experience and a positive run of results. The organization has not yet confirmed the date or opponent for the Cuban's return, but the expectation is that the heavyweight will return as one of the division's main attractions due to his combination of size, explosiveness, and knockout power.
