After winning with his trademark style, Valter Walker jokes: 'I don't know how to do anything else'

One of the most popular names in MMA today, Valter Walker added another name to his record last Saturday afternoon, defeating Thomas Petersen in the first round. His fifth consecutive victory came with another submission, this time with a rare calf lock. Known for his grappling skills, the fighter was candid in admitting his "fear" of not being able to defeat opponents who can avoid his game. He spoke about this in an interview with journalist Laerte Viana shortly after the fight.

With his usual good humor, Walker said that he wouldn't have been able to win the fight if the submission hadn't happened. Amid laughter, he stated that a second professional loss might be imminent as the level of his opponents increases.

“I’m bad. I’m doing what I know how to do. I don’t know how to do anything else, I’m at my limit. If someone defends (heel hook), I don’t know what I’ll do. Today you almost saw me getting screwed. If the crazy guy (Petersen) had come out, I would have lost. I’m a piece of shit, God-fearing, and God saved me again. Because if it hadn’t worked, I would have ended up losing the fight. I went for his foot, he punched me twice in the ear, and I almost looked at the referee and asked him to stop,” he said, laughing.
