A bizarre incident marked the duel valid for the lightweight division (up to 70,3 kg) at Jungle Fight 153, held last Saturday (25), in Itu, São Paulo. In the preliminary card fight, Ofir Neto applied a low kick that ended up destroying the groin of his rival, Augusto Correia.

The incident occurred within the first minute of the fight. While attempting to pressure his opponent and close the distance in the cage, Ofir delivered a blow that struck Augusto in the groin area. The impact was immediate, causing the fighter severe pain and forcing the referee to stop the fight.

Unable to continue the fight, Augusto saw the bout declared a no contest. However, the most shocking moment came immediately after the fight ended: upon leaving the octagon, it was discovered that his plastic groin protector had been completely destroyed by the force of the kick.

According to the event's head of refereeing, Flávio Almendra, the athletic commission recommends the use of aluminum groin protectors, which are more durable. Even so, the choice of plastic equipment came from Augusto Correia himself.
