Unable to continue the fight, Augusto saw the bout declared a no contest. However, the most shocking moment came immediately after the fight ended: upon leaving the octagon, it was discovered that his plastic groin protector had been completely destroyed by the force of the kick.
According to the event's head of refereeing, Flávio Almendra, the athletic commission recommends the use of aluminum groin protectors, which are more durable. Even so, the choice of plastic equipment came from Augusto Correia himself.
