Anthony Smith 's freedom , it seems, will literally cost him dearly. The former UFC fighter was arrested in Nebraska (USA) last Monday (27), accused of three serious crimes. However, he may leave prison soon, as a judge set his bail at US$500 (about R$2,7 million), according to information from 'TMZ Sports'.

A former light heavyweight (up to 93 kg) title challenger and current commentator, Smith faces charges of making terrorist threats, first-degree unlawful imprisonment, and domestic violence resulting in serious bodily harm.

The American appeared before a judge for the first time in Sarpy County, Nebraska, on Wednesday morning (29), when bail was officially set. As soon as he raises the stipulated amount, he can be released while awaiting trial.

Still, Smith will not have complete freedom. As a condition of responding to the proceedings while free, he is prohibited from having any contact with his wife, Mikhala Smith. Furthermore, he cannot leave the state without judicial authorization and must avoid any involvement in new problems.

If convicted, the charges could result in a sentence of up to 26 years in prison.

Anthony Smith , 38, is a veteran of MMA and rose to prominence in the UFC. The American began his career in the sport in 2008 and competed for the company's light heavyweight title in 2019.
