Brazilian MMA fans were treated to a green and yellow duel in the first fight of UFC Vegas 120 on Saturday night (8). Gigi Canuto and Carol Foro delivered a spectacular fight, in a duel valid for the strawweight category (up to 52,1 kg), won by Foro in the debut of both in the biggest event on the planet. With the result, the Paraense reached her eighth consecutive victory.

The two fighters began the fight studying each other in the center of the octagon, with Carol landing good kicks to her opponent's lead leg and feeling comfortable exchanging strong punches at close range. More patient, Gigi worked her jab both to the face and the midsection. After hitting Foro with a good straight punch, Canuto was countered by a strong left cross, which clearly stunned her halfway through the first round. Subsequently, the two began to engage in a more open fight, with Carol cornering her opponent against the cage and connecting powerful combinations to both the body and the head, clearly winning the first round.
Determined not to suffer in the striking exchanges, Canuto went for a takedown against the cage and immediately transitioned to her opponent's back in the opening minute of the second round. With great skill, she controlled one of her opponent's arms with her legs and began to look for a choke. She maintained the position for a few seconds, landing short punches to create opportunities for a submission. She then transitioned to side control and almost applied a kimura, which was well defended by her compatriot, who managed to resist until the end of the round.
With everything still up in the air, the two returned with great intensity for the final round. Despite managing to take her opponent down again briefly, Canuto found herself cornered against the cage once more, being hit by powerful punches from Foro. Carol significantly damaged her opponent's midsection with knees and punches, while Gigi countered with short elbows and jabs.
Occasionally, the fighter from Amazonas sought a takedown, but Foro sprawled and landed elbows to the head. In the final 90 seconds, she finally managed a takedown and went for a very tight armbar, which Foro defended very well, returning to her feet. The two spent the final seconds in an intense exchange. At the end of the 15-minute fight, all judges scored it 29-28 in favor of Carol Foro.
