Patchy Mix 's bad run in MMA simply doesn't seem to end. At Rizin 54, an event held this Tuesday (11) in Japan, the American lost to Shoko Sato, the home athlete, via unanimous decision. Thus, the former Bellator king and ex-UFC fighter suffered his fourth consecutive defeat, the second in the Asian league. The only Brazilian present at the event, Kleber Koike, also had no luck.
Basically, Mix faced another defeat at the weigh-in. Coming on the scale two kilos over the bantamweight limit (up to 61,2 kg), the American was penalized with the loss of two points and, had he won, the result would have been changed to a 'no contest'. Aware that he would have to perform a miracle to avoid defeat, the athlete adopted an aggressive stance seeking a submission, but was unsuccessful against Sato. In the striking exchanges, the Japanese fighter was superior, hurting the former UFC fighter's legs with his kicks and securing an important victory.

In the main event, Kleber Koike, former featherweight champion (up to 65,8 kg), was no match for the promising 20-year-old Kyoma Akimoto. A jiu-jitsu specialist, the Brazilian couldn't take down his opponent and struggled in the striking exchanges. Superior on his feet, the Japanese fighter punished the veteran so severely that he caused his face to bleed. At the end of the 15-minute fight, the Asian fighter won by unanimous decision. Riding a six-fight winning streak, the athlete is expected to challenge for the category's belt in his next fight.
