Mauricio Ruffy received a very confident analysis from Pablo Sucupira ahead of his next UFC fight. The former Fighting Nerds coach of the Brazilian assessed the bout against Arman Tsarukyan on September 19th in Los Angeles (USA), and pointed to his compatriot as the favorite for the fight, in addition to projecting a possible outcome.
In an interview with the YouTube channel 'Sexto Round', available this Tuesday (8), Pablo commented on Ruffy's evolution since leaving Fighting Nerds. Currently, the fighter is preparing in Australia, alongside Alexander Volkanovski , and will face one of the main wrestling specialists in the lightweight division (up to 70,3 kg).

“Luffy isn’t in Fighting Nerds, but he’s doing well in Australia with Volka, and one thing people say is: ‘Luffy is now going to learn takedown defense.’ In every fight, people have called takedowns on Luffy, but they judge him by the fight with Benoit Saint Denis . For those who were there, it was a horrible fight, a performance well below what he’s capable of,” said Pablo Sucupira.
The coach also recalled other moments in Mauricio Ruffy 's career to defend his assessment of the Brazilian's takedown game and highlighted opponents who have tried to exploit this tactic unsuccessfully.
“In the Contender's fight against Magomedaliev, who was a teammate of Islam Makhachev , at 77, he spent all three rounds trying to take him down and didn't succeed once. Michael Chandler and even Fiziev tried, but nobody took him down, so he actually has good takedown defense. Whether it's good enough to defend Tsarukyan's takedowns in a fight, we'll find out there, but what I really believe is that 'Ruffão' is well, if he's not injured, and arrives in good shape for the fight, I think he's the favorite against Tsarukyan, I think he not only wins, but wins by knockout,” concluded the main coach of Fighting Nerds.
