Ciryl Gane , it seems, does not intend to take any blame for the eye injury that cost Tom Aspinall his heavyweight title . The Frenchman faced the Briton at UFC 321, held in October 2025, but the fight ended in a no contest after an accidental eye poke by the fighter . The frustrating outcome forced Aspinall to undergo two surgeries and left him with no return date to the octagon, leading the UFC to strip him of the 120,2 kg title due to inactivity.

In a statement to the 'Zack Nani TV' channel, Gane stated that similar situations frequently occur in MMA, but believes he is constantly targeted for criticism. The Frenchman also complained about being treated like a cheater because of the incident involving Aspinall.
