Justin Gaethje has not yet decided if he will return to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) octagon. Coming off the biggest victory of his career, when he defeated Ilia Topuria and won the lightweight title (up to 70,3 kg) at UFC Casa Branca , the American saw Arman Tsarukyan knock out Mauricio Ruffy at UFC 331 and take over as the number one contender. Despite this, the champion admits that the fight against the Armenian may not happen.

In an interview with Andrew Schulz, Gaethje revealed that he is still evaluating the next steps in his career. At 37 years old, the fighter stated that he doesn't feel he needs to prove anything anymore and acknowledged that he is conflicted about the possibility of facing Tsarukyan, even with the pressure to accept the fight.
