Brazilian MMA could gain a new UFC champion next Saturday (3). Natalia Silva will have the opportunity to win the flyweight belt (up to 56,7 kg) for the first time in her career, against Wang Cong , in the main fight of UFC 332, in Salt Lake City, USA.

More than just the title, the Brazilian fighter could write her name in the organization's history. If she beats the Chinese fighter, Natália will be the first Brazilian athlete to win the women's flyweight title in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), a feat that no other Brazilian woman has achieved to date.

Over the years, four Brazilian women have reached the top of the organization. Mackenzie Dern is the current strawweight champion (up to 52,2 kg), while Amanda Nunes made history by winning titles in two weight classes. Cris Cyborg and Jessica Andrade have also been UFC champions.

Now, Natalia Silva is one victory away from joining that select group and, at the same time, achieving an unprecedented feat for Brazil. To do so, she will face Wang Cong in the main event of UFC 332.

In the UFC women's flyweight division, three Brazilian fighters have already had the opportunity to challenge Valentina Shevchenko for the title . The first was Jennifer Maia , who faced the Kyrgyz fighter in November 2020 and was defeated by unanimous decision. In April 2021, it was Jessica Andrade's turn, who suffered a technical knockout in the second round. Meanwhile, Taila Santos faced the former champion in June 2022 and delivered a balanced fight, but was ultimately defeated by split decision.
